Cadets begin by firing Air Rifles, When proficiency is reached firing these weapons and the necessary standard of training is achieved cadets may fire the .22 Calibre Rifle.

After demonstrating competency with this weapon, further training & achieving the age of 14 1/2, cadets may fire the L98A1 rifle, this is a special cadet version of the standard British Service SA80.
