| | Two types of Glider are used in the Air Cadet Gliding Organisation. |
| |
The Viking is a conventional glider. |
 | Launched by a winch, then flown on a number of exercises to demonstrate the controls & techniques of gliding. |
| |
The Vigilant is a self-launched (powered) glider. |
 | Takes off under its own power, then when at operating height the engine can be switched off & the aircraft flown as a glider. |
| |
 | There are a number of gliding courses open to cadets, initially cadets will be given the opportunity of a Glider Induction Course (GIC) that will give a basic introduction to gliding. | | Cadets who are a little older & are able to meet the medical requirement may be offered a Gliding Scholarship (GS), which may take them to solo standard & could culminate in a solo flight. | | For those who demonstrate exceptional ability an Advanced Gliding course is available, which could lead eventually to the cadet becoming an Instructor on a Gliding School. |
